The temple’s origins date back to the 16th century when it was founded
by King Mueangkaeo of the Lanna Kingdom. During this time, Chiang Mai was a
thriving center for trade and silver craftsmanship, and Wat Srisuphan became

undergone several renovations, but its essential character has remained
unchanged.

In 2023 2024, a major
restoration project was initiated under the guidance of Phra Kru
Phithatsuthikhun, the temple’s abbot. With the support of local artisans and
the community, the ubosot, or ordination hall, underwent a remarkable
transformation. Instead of using traditional materials like wood and gold, the
ubosot was meticulously adorned with silver, aluminum, and nickel, creating a
shimmering spectacle that reflects the surrounding
light.

The result is a breathtaking
architectural masterpiece, a harmonious blend of traditional Lanna design and
modern construction techniques. The ubosot’s exterior is covered in intricate
silver panels, each meticulously hand-carved with intricate motifs inspired by
Buddhist scriptures and Lanna folklore. The roof, adorned with gleaming silver
tiles, resembles a celestial canopy, while the interior walls are painted with
vibrant murals depicting scenes from the Buddha’s
life.

Inside the ubosot, a serene
atmosphere prevails. Rays of sunlight filter through the windows, casting a
soft glow on the silver-plated walls and illuminating the resplendent Buddha
